Student of the Semester: Brody McQuiston

By Rachel Callahan

Senior Brody McQuiston has been selected as a Student of the Semester! This honor is chosen by teachers for exemplary work in the classroom, integrity in the community, and overall character.

Brody is a multifaceted athlete who is a member of the varsity basketball team, the boys varsity track and field team, and PK Flash, his travel basketball team. He dedicates himself and excels in each sport he partakes in, and notes that his largest inspiration is Kobe Bryant “because he worked hard in everything he did.”

“Brody is the definition of a scholar-athlete. He is extremely dedicated to his academics as well as his athletic endeavors,” praises AP Calculus teacher Gary Lyons. “His ability to balance his time and excel at both is extremely commendable; for as many hours as he spends in the gym, he finds time to seek out help in AP Calculus as well. He is also a great young man who has always been respectful and caring for others. The choice to be student of the semester is well deserved.”

Brody is motivated to work as hard as he does because he wants to receive a good academic scholarship in college where he wants to study business.

Mr. Cooper, Brody’s AP Government teacher, commends him and notes, “Brody does a great job in the classroom. It’s great to see an athlete work hard both on the athletic court of competition and also in their academics. Those traits will take Brody far in life.”

Outside of sports and academics, Brody exhibits a well-rounded character with his participation in Peer Leadership where he serves as the secretary and the National Honor Society.

“Brody brings a positive attitude to class every day. He always comes to class ready to learn. Because of his attitude and preparation, he makes it a great environment for all involved,” applauds his Advanced Literature and Research teacher, Mr. Mayo.

Brody’s favorite class is Accounting 2 because it comes naturally to him. He also considers his strongest trait to be the fact he does not procrastinate.

Congratulations and best of luck in your future endeavors, Brody!!
