Student of the Semester: Amelia Conaway

By Mackenzie Sheridan

The time of year when teachers nominate students to appreciate their success has arrived! The Student of the Semester award highlights the academic achievements and the excellent attitudes of Shenango students. Sophomore Amelia Conaway has earned this award for the 2023 semester.

Amelia values her education, noting that “I’m motivated to study hard by my parents and my dreams for the future.”

Amelia’s performance is commended by English teacher Mrs. Catanese, who says, “Even though I have not had Amelia for a long time, it is truly apparent that she gives her all to the classroom and the Shenango community. It’s endearing that she has teamed up with Mrs. Butchy to create a reading program with our elementary students. Amelia asserts her interpretations and insights in a thoughtful manner that challenges others. She is ambitious, and I know that no matter what the goal is, she will work earnestly to be successful.”

Chemistry is Amelia’s favorite class “because it has been fun to learn something new.” Mr. Vecenie, the chemistry teacher, recognizes Amelia’s stellar work ethic. “Amelia balances a variety of activities, yet always creates superior work. Very few students demonstrate the level of commitment to learning and achievements that Amelia displays daily!”

Her social studies teacher, Mrs. Shields, agrees. “In social studies, Amelia always impresses me! She is a hard worker, a great leader, and is always willing to share her historical interpretation.”

Besides all of the academics, Amelia is involved in many activities. Her extracurricular activities include varsity danceline, trebles and mixed chambers choir, track and field, Student Council, NHS, and Peer Leadership.

Amelia’s role model is “my sister because she is kind to everyone.” This inspiration of kindness is reflected in her education as Spanish teacher Mr. Mularski who says, “I love the way she always has a smile on her face. She has a great work ethic and treats people right.”
