Wildcat of the Third Nine Weeks: Sophomore Sam Myers

by Madison Iwanjeko and Ariana Nye

Sam Myers is the Wildcat of the Nine Weeks for 10th grade. At Shenango High School, students are nominated by teachers for outstanding academic achievement and strong character.

Sam’s teachers witness evidence of his commitment to his education, including Sam’s chemistry teacher, Mr Vecenie.  “Sammy is an extremely polite, hard-working, and intelligent young man that is a joy to have in the class and in the athletic forum. He has a bright future ahead of him.” For Sam, what motivates him to consistently work hard is his attitude of “just trying to be the best.”

His honors English teacher sees these qualities in Sam as well. “Sam always puts his best effort into everything he does in class, but even better than that is the cheerful, goofy approach he takes with everything. I can always count on Sam to provide a funny, but enlightening, comment in class,” said Ms. Murphy

“Sam is in his first year of the Student Technology Assistance Team (STAT) and has quickly become one of my best students,” noted Mr. Heath, technology director.   “He has excelled in all aspects of IT that have been taught so far and has a great attitude. He is always willing to help when a student comes in with a broken Chromebook.”

Sam’s parents are people who he admires greatly. Sam says that his parents are his role models because “they are very hardworking and they do a lot for me so I can be successful in school and in athletics.”

“Sam is truly deserving of this title,” stated Mr. Dess.  “He has a solid understanding of what it is like to be a great student. He is hardworking and very personable, a great joy to teach.”

Congratulations, Sam!!
