Mr. Shenango: Josh Bruce

NHS. Drama Club. Chamber Singer. Marching Band. Peer Leadership. Cross Country. Track. All National Chorus. School musical. Josh Bruce’s list of activities has grown yet again, thanks to being nominated by his peers for the title of Mr. Shenango 2022.

The candidates of Mr. Shenango were asked to choose a charity to donate to, Josh chose St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. “I feel it’s something that’s really affecting kids all over the world. I think in supporting St. Jude, hopefully, we’re saving lives,” he explained.

Josh has had many positive influences in his life.  One in particular who stands out to him is teacher and coach Chris Vecenie, who inspires Josh with his extraordinary “work ethic.” Additionally, he finds that his church youth group and the Boy Scouts of America have “molded him into the person he is today with their many great teachings and lessons.”

Josh loves the idea that Shenango is a smaller school district that enables “everyone to get to know one another.” He believes you can gain a more “personal experience with teachers and your peers this way”.

When younger students look at Josh, he hopes that they see “with hard work and determination, you can do anything you want to!” On top of that, Josh’s words of wisdom to the underclassman would be “don’t get lazy within your high school career. Don’t take a step back or give up; just keep persevering because it will get you where you want to go.”

His escort is his twin sister Riley Bruce. “We have always been close and I thought this would be a fun experience to go through with her.”

Congratulations Josh!
