Maria Bryant Named Sophomore Studnet of the Nine Weeks

By Laana Hassan and Kassidy Peters

Maria Bryant was selected as the sophomore Student of the Nine Weeks at Shenango High School. The Student of the Nine Weeks is nominated by faculty members for their hard work, character, and attitude.

Maria is a multi-sport athlete competing in volleyball, indoor track, and outdoor track. She balances out her busy schedule by staying on top of her work and “getting it done as soon as I get home.”

Maria’s time management and work ethic stand out to her social studies teacher, Ms. Shields. “Maria has done a great job balancing her student-athlete life! No matter how demanding her athletics become, she consistently stays focused and dedicated to her school work.”

Staying motivated throughout the school year can be difficult, especially with COVID still affecting daily school activities. Maria’s goal of “maintaining good grades” each nine weeks is what keeps her driven through it all. Her Spanish teacher, Mr. Mularski, says, “Maria has a great attitude about school!”

Maria’s favorite class this school year is “psychology because it is the most interesting.” Maria’s psychology teacher is Ms. Schuster, whom she looks up to. “She cares about her student’s performance in the class, but also their overall well-being,” Ms. Schuster says. “Maria’s questions, comments, and positive attitude toward learning contribute to her value in the classroom. I truly enjoy having her as a student!”

Outside of school, her biggest role model is Emma Callahan. Maria says that Emma “pushes me to do my best and work hard in everything I do.”

Congratulations, Maria, on Student of Month!
